My Background

Seamus O'Connor, MA, MS, MT-BC, LPC is a Board Certified Music Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 15 years of experience in the field of music education. Seamus has worked with music students and music therapy clients in Ireland, UK, and USA. Seamus' love for music started at an early age, and began learning piano at age 7. He started playing clarinet at age 14 when he joined his school band. This gave him the early experience of performing on international stages, touring Ireland and the US. Seamus received his BA in music from Dublin City University (DCU), Dublin, Ireland; Seamus continued his studies at DCU, and shortly followed with a masters  in musicology. Seamus graduated from the MSc in Music Therapy (Nordoff-Robbins) at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, Scotland in 2010. 



Music Therapy

Seamus brings more than 10 years of experience as a trained music therapist, and Licensed Professional Counselor. With experience from a broad range of client groups, from children with ASD, Down's Syndrome, and developmental disorders, to adults with degenerative neurological disorders, and youth living in social deprivation. As well as his graduation from a course approved by the International Trust for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy (MSc Music Therapy), Seamus also spent one year volunteering at the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy, at NYU. This gave Seamus the opportunity to further develop his clinical and musical skills under the supervision of Dr. Alan Turry. 

Seamus currently specializes in the field of mental health, using recovery principles. The diverse professional background available to him, ensures that Seamus can devise an approach to music therapy that will be designed to your needs and implemented using techniques from a blended approach to care.

Seamus offers services that are enjoyable for the people he works with, while also maintaining a balance of providing goal based focus for each individual. Lessons offered:
